Description

Inspired by the strengths-based practice micro-credential, this session explores the difference between naming strengths for someone and creating the conditions for people to describe what they have done, what matters to them and who has supported them. Participants will practise tracing small actions, survival knowledge and exceptions to problem stories, while avoiding forced optimism or overlooking structural barriers.

Who it is for

Community and human services practitioners seeking to deepen person-led and strengths-based practice in complex or crisis-focused settings.

What you will learn

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Recognise the difference between strengths labelling and collaborative story development.
  • Ask questions that bring forward agency, values, relationships and preferred identity.
  • Apply strengths-based narrative practice without minimising trauma, risk or structural disadvantage.

Resources included

Preferred-story question guide; strengths and agency reflection tool; practice scenario.
