Membership Terms and Conditions
How to apply for and use Homelessness Queensland membership.
These terms explain how to apply for and use Homelessness Queensland (HQ) membership. They should be read with HQ’s Rules of Association, which govern membership rights and decisions. If these terms and the Rules differ, the Rules apply.
1.Who can apply
People and organisations that support HQ’s purpose may apply for membership. HQ’s Rules provide two formal classes: Ordinary and Associate. The descriptions “Student”, “Individual” and organisation revenue bands on the application form identify fee categories; they do not, by themselves, determine a member’s formal class or voting rights. HQ will confirm the accepted class to each applicant.
2.Applications and acceptance
An applicant must complete HQ’s approved form, provide accurate information and consent to applying. An organisation must nominate an authorised representative. Applications are considered by the Management Committee under the Rules. Submitting a form or paying a fee does not itself confirm acceptance. HQ will notify the applicant of the decision and their membership class. An applicant whose application is rejected may appeal in accordance with the Rules and applicable HQ policy.
3.Membership period and fees
Membership is annual. HQ will display the applicable fee and membership period before payment and confirm the renewal date on acceptance. The Management Committee sets fees and due dates under the Rules. An organisation’s fee is based on the annual revenue band stated on the application form; HQ may ask for reasonable information to confirm the band. HQ will advise an organisation with revenue above the bands shown on the current form of the applicable fee before taking payment. Fees for Academy courses, events and other products are separate unless HQ expressly states otherwise.
4.Organisation memberships
One organisation membership may provide the advertised benefits to up to five nominated employees. Those employees receive access through the organisation; they do not each become members or receive a separate vote by being nominated. The organisation exercises any voting right through its properly nominated representative. The organisation must notify the Secretary in writing of a change in representative within 14 days, as required by the Rules, and should keep its employee nominations current.
5.Rights and benefits
An accepted Ordinary member has one vote at an Annual General Meeting, General Meeting or Special General Meeting and counts towards quorum under the Rules. An Associate member may participate as a member but does not vote or count towards quorum. Meeting attendance, nominations and elections are governed by the Rules. Membership benefits may include advocacy updates, consultations, selected resources and eligible member rates for training or events. Particular offers may have their own eligibility and booking conditions. HQ may change prospective benefits and will communicate material changes to members.
6.Conduct and representation
Members agree to comply with HQ’s Rules and applicable policies and procedures. Members should engage respectfully with HQ, other members and people with lived or living experience. Membership does not authorise a person or organisation to speak, make commitments or use HQ’s name or branding on HQ’s behalf without written authority.
7.Information and communications
Applicants must give accurate details and notify the Secretary in writing of an address change within 14 days, as required by the Rules. HQ will use membership details to administer applications, fees, member benefits, notices and its register of members, subject to the Rules and HQ’s Privacy Policy. Optional newsletters and promotional updates require a separate choice on the form and may be unsubscribed from without ending membership. Notices required for membership administration may still be sent.
8.Renewal and ending membership
HQ may invite members to renew before their membership ends. The Rules specify the process for unpaid fees, including notice and an opportunity to pay before cancellation. A member may resign at any time by written notice to the Secretary; resignation takes effect when the notice is given. The Rules also specify other grounds on which membership ceases and the process for censure, suspension or expulsion. HQ will handle any fee adjustment or refund request fairly, having regard to the circumstances and any rights that cannot be excluded by law.
9.Changes to these terms
HQ may update these terms for future applications or renewals. A change to these terms does not amend HQ’s Rules. Changes to the Rules require the process prescribed by the Rules and applicable law. The version made available when a person applies or renews will be retained for HQ’s records.
