Description

Throughout this micro-credential, you will explore a range of contemporary theories and approaches that inform homelessness practice. Rather than presenting theory as abstract or academic, each module demonstrates how these concepts can strengthen your professional judgement and support practical decision-making in everyday situations.

Who it is for

Our micro-credentials are open to new and experienced workers, people in related services, those considering a career in the homelessness sector, and anyone wanting to deepen their understanding of homelessness responses.

What you will learn

On successful completion of this micro-credential, you will be able to:

  • Explain how human rights, social justice, and access to safe and appropriate housing influence people’s experiences of homelessness and shape respectful practice.
  • Recognise the individual, social, and systemic factors that contribute to homelessness and understand the importance of prevention and early intervention.
  • Describe how a person’s relationships, community connections, service systems, and broader social environment can influence their experiences and pathways into or out of homelessness.
  • Recognise the impact of trauma and adversity and apply trauma-informed and healing-centred principles to create safer and more supportive interactions.
  • Integrate contemporary theories into professional judgement, collaborative practice and evidence-informed decision-making.

Each micro-credential is supported by topic-specific reading and other resources, online through CQUniversity and in the Homelessness Queensland support sessions.
