1800 811 811 – Womensline

DVConnect’s Womensline is Queensland’s only 24 hour, 7 days a week, 365 days a year crisis response telephone helpline.  DVConnect helps Queenslanders who want to escape domestic violence. The service is for anyone identifying as a female, regardless of age, accessibility, ethnicity, gender orientation, or ethnicity. This includes friends in the LGBTIQ community.

The goal is to respond to your immediate safety needs.DVConnect can provide you with:

  • Emergency transport ie taxi, bus, train or plane to remove you from violence
  • Safe, emergency motel accommodation
  • Specialist crisis counselling
  • Safety planning, Information, referrals and support for those living with domestic violence
  • Safe accommodation for pets through the Pets In Crisis program.

1800 600 636 – Mensline

DVConnect Mensline is a free, confidential telephone counselling, referral, information and support, service for Queenslanders identifying as male, and who may be experiencing or using domestic and family violence. This service is available 9am until midnight, 7 days a week. In the last financial year, DVConnect’s Mensline received almost 15,000 phone calls and referrals.

DVConnect’s Mensline offers counselling, referral, information and support for:

  • Men who are using violence in their relationships
  • Men who are experiencing domestic and family violence
  • Others seeking support for men using or experiencing domestic and family violence.

The Handy Guide for Homeless Women

The Handy Guide for Homeless Women has been developed by The Lady Musgrave Trust to provide support services for women who are without shelter or at risk of becoming homeless. It provides details for vital services including:

  • Emergency phone numbers
  • Accommodation such as emergency accommodation, short and long-term accommodation units and housing services
  • Food and welfare such as food vans, kitchens, laundry, showers, and Centrelink
  • Support centres such as Drop-in Centres, Community Centres, and Assessment and Referral Services
  • Health services such as emergency choices, street doctors, and specialty services
  • Legal assistance for tenancy/housing problems, victims of crime, Centrelink and more
  • Community and specialist services for domestic violence support, family support and immigration support
  • Employment
  • Facilities such as public libraries, lockers, free transport and toilets

QSTARS Advice Line can assist:

  • Residential tenants, rooming residents, boarders and prospective renters.
  • Advice if you are having a tenancy dispute with your lessor, agent or provider.
  • Advice if you are renting in private rental (from an agent or private lessor), in social housing (in public or community housing) or renting in a caravan park or boarding house.


The Reconnect Program is a community based early intervention and prevention program for young people aged 12 to 18 years (or 12 to 21 years in the case of newly arrived youth) who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and their families.

The aim of Reconnect is to prevent homelessness by intervening early with families and young people to stabilise and improve their housing situation and improve their level of engagement with family, education, training, employment and their local community.

Reconnect helps around 7,900 young people each year to improve their relationships with their family, stay at school and to participate in their local community.

Reconnect services provide counselling, group work, mediation and practical support to the whole family, to help break the cycle of homelessness. Reconnect providers also purchase other services to meet the individual needs of clients, such as specialised mental health services.
